State-wide Petition Challenge to Start August 2nd

From the desk of Crystal Jurczynski (Libertarian Party of Illinois Campaign Director) for immediate release:

Our line-by-line petition challenge to keep our state-wide Libertarian candidates on the ballot will be next week, August 2-6, at the State Board of Elections, 1020 S. Spring Street in Springfield.

If you are at least 18 years old and can bring a valid state ID, you can help us staff the defense. Each defender will be assigned to a computer with a representative from the challengers and a neutral person from the State Board of Elections (SBE). The SBE will look at each signature line that was objected to and attempt to find that person in the list of registered voters. If found, the signatures will be compared to see if there is a match.

As a defender, you can provide suggestions to the SBE that would help them find the correct address and see similarities in signatures. You would also track the lines we win and lose, so we can watch our total number of valid signatures climb.

We need 16 volunteers per day, from Monday through Friday. Days will start at 9 a.m. and end between 5 and 6 p.m. Because we would like to make a good impression with the State Board of Elections officials, casual office attire is requested.

If you can help, please email Crystal ( with how many and which days you can contribute, so we can plan a schedule for the week. For example, “I can be there on Monday”, “I can be there any 2 days, Tuesday through Thursday,” or “I can be there any 3 days in a row.”

If you need a ride or can share a ride, need a room or can share a room, please mention that as well. If you are going to reserve a hotel room, one suggestion is to try and see if you can get a cheap rate.

We have 16 x 5 = 80 spots to fill and any days you can provide to defend our petition and help our candidates stay on the ballot are very much appreciated.
